Due for completion in summer 2017, we are currently building a new CLT house at Mellon Charles near Aultbea in Wester Ross. The site is on a south facing hillside overlooking Loch Ewe with astounding views from the Great Wilderness north of Loch Maree to Beinn Eighe and Torridon.
A structural steel base supported on concrete piers raises the whole house off the ground and supports a JJI timber I beam ground floor. The remaining superstructure is glulam and CLT with the majority exposed as interior finish. The house is heated by warm water underfloor heating powered by air source heat pump. Insulation on the outside of the CLT is wood fibre. External cladding is vacuum coated Scottish larch by Russwood. Windows are by Treecraft of Dornoch although the large glazed screen is dry glazed directly onto the glulam post and beam.
